OCZ ZS Series 650W PSU Review

The ZS series power supply is a relatively ordinary black power supply with all of its cables hardwired to the body of the unit. Much like the majority of power supplies today, it is using a large 135mm fan for cooling and its chassis adheres to the ATX design guide specifications; therefore, the ZS series unit will fit inside any ATX-compliant case although the many cables might cause a bit of a problem inside very small and/or crowded systems.

Both sides of the power supply are covered by black/blue decorative stickers, featuring the company and series logos, as well as the unit’s power output inside a blue area.

The sticker with the unit's electrical specifications can be found at the top of the chassis and thus it will not be visible at all inside most cases, with the exception of cases which have their PSU compartment located at the bottom of the case.

The rear is entirely perforated to allow for the air pushed by the cooling fan to escape towards the outside of the case. The unit uses a standard AC power cable and there is an oversized rocker on/off switch next to it.

Being a classic design with all of its cables hardwired to the body of the unit, there is absolutely nothing of interest at the front side of this power supply, not even ventilation holes. The ZS 650W power supply offers the following number of connectors:

Native cables

24-pin ATX connector

1 x 4+4 pin EPS12V/ATX12V CPU connector

1 x 6+2 pin 12V PCIe connector

1 x 6 pin 12V PCIe connector

8 x SATA connectors

4 x Molex connectors
