Nokia Lumia 925 and 625 launching in India by the end of August

Nokia is reportedly planning on launching the Lumia 925 and Lumia 625, its newest Windows Phone smartphones not counting the 41-megapixel Lumia 1020, in India by the end of August.

Nokia is planning on launching two of its newest Windows Phone smartphones, the Lumia 925 and Lumia 625, in India by the end of August, according to a report by The Times of India. The Lumia 925 is already up for pre-order on popular retailer Flipkart for Rs. 33,999, with an estimated release in the fourth week of the month.

The Lumia 925 is the first Lumia to sport an aluminium frame (though the back remains polycarbonate), and improves on the already great PureView camera on the Lumia 920 by adding a 6-element lens with one element being made up of glass for sharper images. It also retains optical image stabilization, and will be getting the Nokia Pro camera app seen on the Lumia 1020 . A beautiful 4.5-inch PureMotionHD+ AMOLED occupies the front, with other specs including a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB internal memory, NFC connectivity, and wireless charging support.

Meanwhile, the Lumia 625 boasts of another first for Nokia, namely the 4.7-inch touchscreen that is the largest the company has ever put on a smartphone. But other than that it’s decidedly a mid-range phone with specs including a WVGA display, 1.2GHz Snapdragon S4 Play processor, 512MB of RAM, a 5-megapixel camera, and a 2,000mAh battery. At a price point expected to be somewhere between the Lumia 620 and 720, it will be going up against Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy Grand and the Micromax Canvas HD, both of which sport similarly large screens at mid-range prices.

While the momentum has been slow, Nokia has been steadily gaining a fan following for its Lumia phones in India, especially on the lower-end of the spectrum with devices such as the Lumia 520. I have a feeling the Lumia 925 won’t see as many sales as the Lumia 625, but both devices should serve well to offer even greater choice for consumers in handsets running Windows Phone 8.

Which of the two will you be picking up?
