It looks like Nokia could soon make its debut in the lucrative wearables market. The company recently amended its Articles of Association to include “consumer wearables”.
The addition only confirms some earlier rumors that indicated Nokia could be working on some smart wearables. Nokia had also filed a patent for a smart wearable recently, with a rather unconventional design. The wearable in the parent filing featured multiple displays, each serving a different function.
While we do not know when Nokia will be releasing its first smart wearable device, we do know that the company will be making a return to the smartphone business next year. It won’t be a full-fledged return though, as Nokia will not be manufacturing smartphones anytime soon. Instead, it will have other companies such as Foxconn manufacture smartphones on its behalf, via the ODM route.
