Nike Fuelband 2 is coming

The Nike Fuelband 2 wearable fitness computer is being field tested and the new model will feature 3rd-party apps, Bluetooth 4.0 and a heart rate monitor.

Wearable fitness computers are big business and Nike intends to stay at the forefront of the industry. The company already has its Nike+ functionality built into every iPhone and iPod, and last year’s Nike Fuelband took fitness computers to an interesting place. The Fuelband was a device you wore on the wrist which would help you keep track of daily activities and monitor your health. It was pretty cool, but had some shortcomings.

Futuristic? Absolutely.

The Fuelband 2, while looking similar to the original, has seen vast improvements under the hood. It will feature Fitbit Flex, an activity tracker; as well as Bluetooth 4.0,  which will mean keeping the device in communication with your iPhone and allowing the use of Fuelband data by other applications. The Fuelband 2 will also contain a heartbeat monitor, which is activated by pinching the device against your wrist.

There’s currently no word on when the device will hit the market, but it is currently being field tested, and that means it likely won’t be too far in the future before we see it in stores.
