New screens for Shadow Warrior reveal a unique hack-and-slash FPS hybrid

Flying Wild Hog Studios’ upcoming re-imagining of the 1997 PC classic Shadow Warrior is looking quite impressive, and the newly released screenshots for the reboot showcase the game’s unique cross-over between first-person shooter elements and gloriously bloody hack-and-slash action.

The Indie studio is aiming to pay its respects with the fan-favorite original while maintaining their own vibrant flair, mixing classic elements with intuitive new mechanics to bring an experience that thrills and provides hours of explosive and rewarding action.

If you’re not familiar with the Shadow Warrior franchise, below you can find an official description straight from the developers:

“Blending the viciously over-the-top gunplay of its predecessor with the elegant precision of the powerful katana, Shadow Warrior is an imaginative take on the classic arcade-style shooter.”

Shadow Warrior tells the bloody tale of Lo Wang, a “corporate shogun” who’s deadly skills with a blade are legendary. Players take control of Wang as he ventures forth to acquire the mystical blade known as the Nobitsura Kage, leaving countless bodies in his wake while he cuts a swath through the opposition.

With the help of Hoji, a banished spirit from a mysterious world, Lo Wang’s destiny becomes entwined in an ageless battle against an evil force that threatens to rain destruction upon the mortal realm. To defeat this mysterious evil, Lo Wang must master the art of war with an expansive arsenal made up of ancient magic, blades and firearms, and ultimately wield the tainted blade to defeat the evil once and for all.

The Shadow Warrior reboot is scheduled for a release Fall 2013 for PC, and for more information please visit the game’s official website.
