New ‘Alien: Isolation’ screens slither out from the shadows

A new batch of screenshots for the upcoming sci-fi thriller Alien: Isolation surfaces, highlighting the suspense-filled terror in being hunted down by a relentless xenomorph.

Hunted. Like prey.

In space, no one can hear you scream…

With Alien: Isolation, Creative Assembly plans to re-construct a proper homage that capitalizes on the terror and tantalizing suspense instilled by Ridley Scott’s iconic 1979 film Alien. The game aims to mirror the desperate struggle for survival that Ellen Ripley faced against a nearly indomitable foe–the snarling, primal nightmare known as a xenomorph.

Years later, gamers take on the role of Amanda Ripley, Ellen’s daughter, as she travels to a derelict spacecraft in order to unearth the secrets of her mother’s disappearance. Little does she know she’s ventured into a hallowed craft, one that’s haunted by a terrifying nightmare that will push her to her limits.

Doesn’t that xeno send shivers up your spine?

Alien: Isolation emphasizes that feeling of raw fear and terror while also blending in maddening suspense, portraying the black acid-bleeding monstrosity as it appeared in the film–terrorizing the entire crew and picking them off, one by one, turning them into hunted prey.

Armed with their wits, players will have to improvise and scavenge for tools in order to get from one deadly escape to another, avoiding the clutches–and the double jaws–of the slithering creature to stay alive.

Creative Assembly’s newest venture will capture many of the iconic and memorable scenes from the films while also delivering a whole new chapter in the series, featuring a new cast–many of which will no-doubt turn into alien food–and clones (think Bishop 341-B in Aliens).

From the impressions we get from this new batch of screens and the short-but-oh-so-sweet reveal trailer, Creative Assembly’s take on the definitive sci-fi horror franchise is shaping up to be an accurate portrayal of the films. Additionally the ship interiors are immensely detailed, and the aliens have been painstakingly adapted to be a splitting image of H.R. Giger’s original design.

Although the game looks pretty amazing so far, the gaming community hasn’t fully recovered from the horrors of Gearbox’s Colonial Marines flub (which was scary in a different way). So there is some skepticism on Alien: Isolation being a hit, but it appears that the team is on the right track.

Alien: Isolation is slated for a release in “Late 2014” for Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4 and PC. For more info be sure to head on over to the game’s official website.
