Motorola Singapore launches dust-proof, water and scratch resistant Defy smartphone

Motorola Defy

Motorola has announced their new Defy smartphone which claims to be dust-proof, water and scratch resistant. Featuring 3.7-inch touchscreen display, the Motorola Defy will be available exclusively at all StarHub outlets by 18 December.

Spiros Nikolakopoulos, vice president and general manager, International Distribution Markets, Motorola Mobility, introduced the new Motorola Defy which claims to be the world’s first life-proof smartphone. According to Nikolakopoulos, life proof means to suit one’s lifestyle, citing the example of throwing the phone in your bag without the need to worry about it (being spoilt) or even the need to have a phone casing, not to mention the Defy is dust-proof, water and scratch resistant.

The Motorola Defy is extremely light, weighing just 118g and boasts Corning Gorilla Glass that has great resistance to impact and scratch damage.

Unlike some smartphones on the market that are running Android 2.2 (or the upcoming Nexus S on Android 2.3), the Motorola Defy is on Android 2.1. However, it also offers other features including 3G mobile hotspot for Internet sharing and Motorola Phone Portal to manage and share media content across desktop, phone and the web.

The mini-USB connector is on the left of the Defy, while the right holds the volume controls. There’s no camera mode/camera shutter button, which means you have to touch the display to capture your photos and videos.

At the rear is the 5-megapixel camera with flash while the top holds the power button and the 3.5mm audio jack.

The Motorola Defy will be exclusive to StarHub and the recommended retail price for the phone is S$528 (before telco subsidies).
