Microsoft aiming for a 2014 smartwatch launch date?

Wherever Apple is going, Microsoft wants to tag along. The rumored Apple iWatch has been on many tech enthusiasts’ radars, and, as expected, Microsoft doesn’t want to be left out of the conversation.

So when will the Redmond-based company start distributing its own iWatch-like device? Well, currently it is speculated that Apple will out its iWatch some time in 2014, and that’s indicative of when Microsoft might also out its own smartwatch.

For now, the rumor mill is churning out bits and pieces of information regarding the Apple iWatch, and companies like Microsoft are definitely tuning in to see if it can outdo Apple in some ways. According to various sources, current development of the Microsoft smartwatch has the device sporting a 1.5-inch touch display that’s made of Oxynitride aluminum, which is purportedly 3x stronger than glass. Also, the smartwatch will come in a variety of colors; blue, red, yellow, black, white, and grey.

Speaking of followers, the smartwatch game will have many major players, with Samsung being one of the most notable company to confirm that it, too, is developing a smartwatch. Some are suggesting that the South Korea-based tech giant will stick with Android, as the OS is quite flexible. However, it’s also possible that Samsung may use the Tizen OS, a project which is currently being supported by giants like Intel and Samsung.
