Master Chief voice actor confirms ‘Halo 5’ coming in 2015

The voice actor behind Master Chief confirms that Halo 5 will release in 2015 and that Halo 2 Anniversary is indeed on the way.

Steve Downes

Steve Downes, the actor who lends his voice to one of the most iconic characters in gaming, has recently revealed a few tidbits about the future of the landmark Halo franchise.

Speaking with Game Zone, Downes clarified that gamers won’t see the highly anticipated Xbox One-exclusive Halo 5 release this year. But we will be getting something in 2014: a remastered version of Halo 2 that capitalizes on the same enhancements of the original Halo Anniversary release.

“I think you may be ahead of yourself on Halo 5,” Downes replied when asked if Halo 5 will release this year.

“I wouldn’t expect anything until 2015. What you can look forward to this year is an anniversary edition of Halo 2.”

Downes’ confirmations fall in line with recent reports from NeoGAF that claim a 2015 release window for Halo 5, along with plans for a Halo 2 Anniversary release.

Halo 2

No official details have been revealed on who is developing the remastered game, and we’re not sure when it’ll release–but NeoGAF speculates that 343i will be handling development and that the upgrades will include 1080p visuals.

2014 marks the 10th anniversary of Halo 2, so it’s not surprising that the game will see an upgraded re-release as a means to offer tribute as well as resurrect one of the seminal games of the Xbox LIVE service. It’ll be interesting to see if the game hits Xbox One, but most likely we’ll see it on Xbox 360.

Many gamers see Halo 2 as the definitive Halo game in terms of multiplayer, and it was one of the landmark titles for the series as well as Microsoft’s online service. It’ll be great to jump back into the frenetic action with some upgraded graphics, considering matchmaking support for Halo 2 on console has been off the grid for quite some time.
