Mass Effect 3 multiplayer receives an upgrade with Rebellion Pack DLC

The rumours about a Mass Effect 3 Rebellion Pack DLC are true! Well, most of it anyway.

Developer Bioware has finally confirmed that you will be able to play Dota as Vorcha, Male Quarian, and Ex-Cerberus characters in the multiplayer portion of the game, fighting against the Reapers on two new maps (Firebase Jade, Firebase Thessia) and with three new weapons (Cerberus Harrier Assault Rifle, Reegar Carbine Shotgun, Krysae Sniper Rifle).

A new objective – "retrieve a high priority package and securely escort it to a designated extraction zone" – will also be added to the pool of existing ones that are doled out randomly during waves 3, 6, and 10.

To help players cope with the increased challenge, there will also be a new equipment slot for persistent upgrade items – ranging from weapon upgrades to character enhances – that do not expire after each match.

Rumours of the Rebellion Pack DLC first surfaced on the Net earlier this month, claiming that the new pack would introduce "Phoenix" Adept and Vanguard, Vorcha Soldier and Sentinel, and Quarian Infiltrator and Engineer into the multiplayer mix. "Phoenix", players had assumed, most likely referred to the race that a certain single-player DLC character belongs to ("Rise from Ashes" DLC pack; free with Mass Effect 3 Collector's Edition).

Not too much attention was paid to those initial claims, since the Quarian Infiltrator and Engineer characters are already in the game, until last week when the very same descriptions for the DLC pack was accidentally posted on Sony's Hong Kong website, giving credence to the rumour. An in-game message that welcomed players to Operation Silence, the most recent weekend multiplayer event, fuelled the speculation further as Bioware hinted that "the vorcha want in, and as soon as they complete combined-arms training with our technically-skilled personnel, we will let them loose."

So. I suppose the Vorcha are a bunch of serious bad-a**es now, huh? Having completed their combined-arms training and all.

We'll find out next Tuesday, May 29, when the Rebellion Pack DLC drops.
