Lumia EOS to have 41 megapixel camera and July release date

A new report has come out that detail the possibility of the rumored Lumia EOS being released in July, possibly July 9th. As well, they also claim the phone will have an impressive 41 megapixel camera sensor.

Not the actual device

Nokia’s much rumored Lumia EOS smartphone now has a possible release date.  Mobile Geeks is reporting that the possible launch date for the device is the second of week of July, though they do add that the most probable day is July 9th. They also go on to mention that this isn’t set in stone, and Nokia is liable to change their minds at any minute, but as of now the date remains solid, especially considering previous rumors suggesting the device would launch around July or August.

Mobile Geeks continues on to say that the Lumia EOS will pack a whopping 41 megapixel camera, though images will only be able to utilize a maximum of 34 megapixels when being taken, not dissimilar to the Nokia PureView 808. Compiling previous rumors along with the new ones from this report, the list goes something like this.

  • 41 megapixel sensor
  • 4.5 inch display with 1280 x 720 resolution
  • Can shoot 1080p video at different framerates, same for 720p
  • Redesigned camera interface with on screen dial controls
  • New interface is called Nokia ProCamera
  • Will include manual mode for managing of all settings
  • Possibly thinner than the Lumia 920 despite the size of the sensor
  • Might not be available in multiple colors

That almost sums up some of the key rumors that have come out in the past, as well as the new Mobile Geeks report. This all sounds very ambitious of Nokia, more so if they plan to somehow fit the camera into a smartphone that isn’t too bulky.

With rumors picking up steam that other companies like Sony and Samsung are also working on their own camera phones, it looks like Nokia has the potential to come out before any of them, and steal any thunder they have might have gained so far. The specs certainly sound great, and the addition of Windows Phone for the OS might make it more appealing than the PureView ever was. If everything comes together as I’m sure Nokia hopes, they could have quite the device on their hands, but only time will tell.
