LG to showcase glasses-free 3D for mobile devices, Optimus Black smartphone and premium notebooks

The new LG Optimus Black Android smartphone will be unveiled at Consumer Electronics Show (CES). It sports a brilliant 4-inch NOVA display with 700 nits brightess and measures 9.2mm thin, claiming to be the world’s slimmest mobile device.

The NOVA display technology featured on the Optimus Black allows users to view whether indoors or outdoors under strong sunlight. In addition to higher luminosity, the NOVA display also reduces power consumption by 50 percent during general indoor use compared to conventional LCD. Similarly, AMOLED consumes twice as much power as NOVA when displaying a full white screen. Equipped with a 1500 mAh battery, the Optimus Black ensures sufficient power for normal usage, even at maximum brightness settings.

In addition, the LG Optimus Black also offers various smart features designed for easy and faster access to important apps and content. The Optimus UI 2.0 provides users with direct access messages, emails and missed calls from the locked screen with just a single finger tap. The Gesture UI offers more intuitive commands, including lifting, shaking and tapping, for taking calls, entering camera mode, or enjoying music. LG Optimus Black also introduces the world’s first Wi-Fi Direct for quick and high-quality data transfer between mobile devices and adopts the world’s first 2MP front-facing camera.

The LG Optimus Black runs on Android 2.2 (Froyo) platform with Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade option coming soon, and will be rolled out globally in the first half of 2011.
