LG G2 getting Android 4.4 KitKat update this month in Korea, early 2014 internationally

One of the first non-Nexus and non-Google Play Edition Android devices to get bumped up to the latest and greatest software version, 4.4 KitKat, will apparently be LG’s G2, slated for the update this month in Korea.

It’s been a bumpy ride from 4.2 Jelly Bean to 4.4 for the outstanding 5.2-incher and, though the Korean upgrading news is official, it doesn’t look like it’ll be smooth sailing from here on out either. At least not on a global scale, as confusion continues to reign over G2’s “international” variants.

The first KitKat ETA we got was also this month, via SFR France, albeit ultimately the carrier turned out to have jumped the gun and made a boo-boo. Their second announcement was much vaguer, suggesting the G2 was due for a 4.4 update in late January 2014 at the earliest, whereas LG’s Canadian arm pinpointed the software rollout for two months later.

Now LG Korea says to expect it by the end of the year after all, and I bet you’re starting to feel a little woozy. Only knowing how these things tend to happen, it’s not out of the question for the entire timetable to check out.

Namely, the G2 could get the OTA in the next couple of weeks in Korea, then a month or so later in France and other European markets, and in March 2014 in Canada. Where does that leave the US? Probably a little behind, though there should be light at the end of the tunnel for everybody, and a KitKat update for all American G2 users sometime in April of next year.

Think that’s bad? How about those poor Optimus G owners LG Estonia toyed with last week and ultimately left in the dust?
