LG G Pad tablet will likely feature Snapdragon 800

LG is allegedly working on a new 8.3-inch tablet, which will be unveiled at next month’s IFA event in Berlin.

The tablet will be called the G Pad, and it looks like there is some validity to the name as LG’s latest flagship is called the G2. The 8.3-inch tablet will feature a full-HD screen manufactured by LG Display, Snapdragon 800 that comes with a quad-core 2.2 GHz CPU, along with an Adreno 330 and LTE. The tablet will come with 2 GB RAM, and there isn’t word yet on how much internal memory it will contain.

The Korea Herald cites sources familiar that have indicated that LG has begun work on 500 prototypes at its Chinese assembly line. Initial estimates by LG seem to indicate that the manufacturer aims to sell a 100,000 units monthly, with the assembly line set to handle production of 200,000 units monthly if demand should increase.

LG has its work cut out in the tablet market, as Samsung has already released three new tablets in the Galaxy Tab series this year, and has managed to sell 8.1 million tablets in Q2 2013.In spite of not launching a new tablet this year, Apple continues to lead the market by selling 14.1 million units and controls 32.1% of the market share.

Google is also back at it with the Nexus 7 2013, which comes with great hardware for the price it sells for. It looks like Amazon will also refresh its Kindle Fire line this year. So for the LG’s G Pad to sell, it needs to feature better hardware than what is already available at the same price point.

It looks like LG will be unveiling other hardware beside the G Pad at this year’s IFA, as the manufacturer has taken out patents for names like the ‘G Watch’ and ‘G Glass’. They seem to indicate that LG will also have some kind of a smartwatch offering to rival Samsung’s Galaxy Gear, which is also scheduled to be unveiled at the IFA.
