Leaked pictures claim to show Samsung’s upcoming AMOLED tablet

The leaked image suggests that Samsung’s upcoming AMOLED display-toting Android slate will look quite similar to the company’s existing tablets.

A couple of leaked images claim to reveal Samsung’s 10.5-inch tablet with an AMOLED display, which a recent rumor suggested would launch as the Galaxy Tab S.

From the images, it would be hard to differentiate the Galaxy Tab S from Samsung’s Galaxy TabPRO tablet, which was launched as part of Samsung’s high-end tablet lineup earlier this year. The display is said to be an AMOLED unit – it doesn’t exactly look any different from an LCD display in the leaked picture, though the vivid colors and deep blacks typical of AMOLED screens should be noticeable in real-life usage.

The same goes for the home button, which looks like a standard button but reportedly houses a fingerprint scanner similar to the one of the Galaxy S5. Similarities to the Galaxy S5 can be seen on the back of the tablet as well, where Samsung’s faux leather has been replaced by a perforated material that should serve to make it easier to handle. Two mysterious dots not seen on other Samsung tablets are present, and are supposedly connectors for a book cover that will launch alongside the tablet.

With such major leaks within a short time, it shouldn’t be long before the Galaxy Tab S is officially announced. The specs are said to include a 2560×1600 display, an Exynos processor with eight cores and LTE connectivity, 2GB of RAM, and an 8-megapixel camera. Android 4.4 KitKat will be powering the software, buried underneath Samsung’s Magazine UX that takes after the Live Tiles on Windows 8.
