KDDI shows off working prototype of upgraded REGZA Phone IS11T smartphone

KDDI has unveiled a working prototype of its upgraded REGZA Phone IS11T smartphone, which is an Android-powered mobile phone with a sliding QWERTY keyboard and is reportedly desgined to cater to "heavy users of social networking services and email, especially those who frequently text with Twitter and Facebook".

Would you like to own an Android-powered smartphone which utilizes a sliding QWERTY keyboard is reportedly designed to cater to heavy users of online social networking services such as Facebook and Twitter while on the move? If so, Toshiba has got just the solution for you, and it comes in the form of a working prototype of an upgraded version of its REGZA Phone IS11T Android smartphone that was launched last month.

According to a report published by Akihabara News, the upgraded REGZA Phone IS11T Android smartphone, when completed, will be preloaded with version 2.3.4 of the Android operating system and will feature a newer version of Qualcomm's Snapdragon system-on-a-chip that sports a CPU clocked at 1.4GHz, along with a four-inch WVGA display. The phone is also expected to come bundled with a variety of standard features such as an eight-megapixel camera, an infrared sensor, wireless connectivity via WiFi and Bluetooth, as well as a battery pack which boasts an uptime of up to 260 hours on standby on a single charge, or 300 minutes of talktime.

In addition to the hardware specifications, Toshiba has claimed that the phone can be set in such a way that an application, such as Facebook, Twitter, or even an email client, is immediately activated upon sliding out the smartphone's QWERTY keyboard. And if that is not enough, the phone reportedly supports some form of multi-display multitasking, where the screen can be divided into different portions to run multiple applications simultaneously.

As the upgraded REGZA Phone IS11T Android-powered smartphone is still currently under development, no information about pricing has been released at this point of time, although Akihabara News has claimed that the phone is expected to be hit retail in Japan come September this year.
