Jawbone Era claims to be world’s first Bluetooth earpiece with built-in accelerometer

The latest in Aliph’s Jawbone product lineup has improved noise-canceling capabilities, longer battery life compared to previous models, and to top it off, a built-in accelerometer. Read on.

The newly launched Jawbone Era is the world’s first earpiece with a built-in accelerometer. The Jawbone Era is an example of how technology can also flex its muscles in a tiny gadget.

The Era is compatible with Jawbone’s MyTalk app, which offers services such as synchronizing with your address book, such that an incoming caller’s name will be announced to you via the headset. The MyTalk application also integrates with your mobile device, displaying the battery indicator of your headset together with your phone’s own battery life indicator.

The Era is strong in its audio capabilities as with the Jawbone line of products, with a new version Aliph’s noise cancelling algorithm to go along with the HD audio

The built in accelerometer currently supports three gestures, shaking it when it is not being worn will answer or end calls. When worn, tapping the earpiece will perform similar functions. Shaking the device four times will put it into pairing mode. Aliph claims that its sensors are smart enough to weed out unintentional movements, and promises that more gestures will be supported soon.

The Jawbone Era will be available in four different designs; Shadowbox, Silver Lining, Midnight, and Smokescreen, and will retail for US$129.99 in the US.
