Intel to release Core i7 930

The most successful and longest selling Nehalem CPU, the Core i7 920, will finally be replaced in Q1 2010 by Intel. 

This move was previously expected with the introduction of Core i7 950 and 975XE and once again with the Core i7 960
The release of Lynnfield Core i7 860 was expected to cannibalize i7 920 sales, and this may have happened. The replacement, Core i7 930 runs at 2.88 GHz, and is expected to fit in the same $280 price range.

Of course, the Core i7 920 is a Bloomfield CPU and fits into the enthusiast LGA 1366 socket. Bit-tech expresses doubt over whether this is a 45nm or 32nm CPU. 45nm would make sense, as the 32nm Westmere shrinks only consist of dual core and six core CPUs. It would most probably a tweaked Bloomfield; perhaps a new stepping. 
We can expect the Core i7 860 to remain the better deal, but if the prospect of triple channel memory, faster QPI interface and the possibility of upgrading to the 6-core, 12-thread Gulftown monster interest you, the Core i7 930 might be the CPU you are looking for.
