Instagram users shared 5 million videos in the first 24 hours

Yesterday, Facebook unveiled Videos for Instagram, a feature that allows users to capture and share a 15 second video using 13 exclusive filters. Since then, a whopping 5 million videos have been uploaded using the new feature in the past 24 hours.

It appears as if the users are definitely giving this newly released feature a try. A company representative told CNET that Instagram users uploaded 5 million videos in the first day of launch.  Even more remarkably, according to Instagram, almost 40 hours of videos per minute were being uploaded during the NBA Championship where Miami Heats claimed victory.

This may not come as a surprise, considering the fact that the photo sharing service – Instagram – has a loyal fan base of almost 130 million users to tap on. It appears that Vine, which has similar functionality, will receive tough competition in the near future.
