With the fan, plastic shroud and the RAM sinks removed, we
got a clear view of what’s cooling the core of this card. Unlike the older
6800GT cards, this Inno3D 6800GS comes with a heavy copper heatsink cooling the
core. This particular heatsink is fastened by 4 bolts and screws on each corner.

After stripping the card bare of it’s cooling solution, this
is how it looks like.

Here’s a close up on the graphics core. This core is marked
similar to our reference NVIDIA GeForce 6800GS. Made on the 35th week of
this year, this core is of the B1 revision. One thing to note is that there is no
more aluminum shim on the core, unlike most other higher end cards in the NVIDIA
family. The presence of the shim would greatly help to protect the core from
being chipped during the removal of the heatsink.

The memory chips present on the card. It appears that these
6800GS come with a different memory part as compared to most other cards in
their family. Instead of the common K4J55323QF-GC20, this 6800GS comes with a
K4J55323QF-VC20 memory instead. These VC20 memories are of 144pin FBGA, built
on a more environmentally friendly lead-free process.

This is how the cooling solution for the card looks like
underneath. The construction of the cooling solution is similar to
the older 6800GT family except for the copper heatsink instead of the aluminum one. RAMs are cooled by a heatspreader. Thermal pads ensure better contact for heat dissipation.
