Huawei announces Ascend P1 S, claims to be world’s slimmest smartphone

Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei Device, was at the event to introduce the company's new Ascend P1 and P1 S Android smartphones. Yu said that users these days want to be constantly connected as well as run their applications on their phones, and therefore they need a smartphone with large display. However, it is uncertain if popular phones on the market such as the one (Apple) that is 9.3mm is sufficient for users. Today, Huawei unveiled the slimmest smartphone, the P1 S that measures 6.68mm. So how did Huawei managed to make the phone so slim and compact. According to Yu, it is achieved through innovative moulding and injection, with customized key components and robust metal frame, and a slimmer and stronger Corning Gorilla anti-scratch glass of 0.55mm (industry slimmest is said to be 0.7mm).

The Huawei Ascend P1 and P1 S will be available in Europe, Asia Pacific, North America, Australia, Middle East and China from end March, or April 2012. Pricing details have not been finalized, but the chairman said the approximate price would be around the US$400 range. The Ascend P1 and P1 S will also come in metallic black, ceramic white and cherry-blossom pink colors, with more color options in future for the fashion-conscious users.
