Google releases stock Android keyboard on Play Store, gesture typing onboard

Google Keyboard

In an effort to allow users to replace their OEM customized keyboards with the stock Android keyboard as easily as possible, Google has released the stock Android keyboard on Play Store for devices running on Android 4.0 and above.

Google has been doing it for a while, pulling various files from their stock Android ROM and putting the APK files up on Play Store. The newest addition to the growing list is the stock Android keyboard. Mind you, Google’s stock keyboard is one of the best keyboards for the platform. Previously, only Android 4.2 users had access to the new gesture typing feature which can now be enjoyed by anyone running a device with Android 4.0 and above.

If you try to understand what Google is up to here, you’ll quickly realize that it is just their effort to ensure that everyone has access to stock Android apps. For example, Samsung or HTC users can replace their stock keyboard app and use the stock Android keyboard instead by simply downloading the app from Play Store. It’s really as simple as that (now).

Key features:
• Gesture Typing with dynamic floating preview
• Voice Typing
• Next-word suggestions and current-word completions
• Dictionaries for 26 languages
• Advanced keyboard layouts
• Works across your Android devices (tablets and phones)

Note: Check out the time of the clock on each of the screenshots.
