GEAK unveils Eye and Mars, budget Smartphones with powerful specs under the hood

Beijing based startup GEAK has had a busy week, with the launch of China’s (and possibly the world’s) first real Smartwatch alongside the launch of two budget priced phones.

GEAK has launched two Smartphones alongside the GEAK Watch (Smartwatch). While the smaller (GEAK Eye) 5-inch phone packs a MediaTek quad-core SoC, the 8 MP front camera makes it stand out from the crowd. Meanwhile, the GEAK Mars is a 5.8-inch phablet with a Snapdragon 600 SoC inside.


The GEAK Eye has an interesting feature that makes it stand out, a large 8 MP front facing camera. Self-shot addicts, begin your gushing-with-joy for this front camera module is rumored to be the same camera found in the rear of the iPhone 5. This camera-centric Smartphone packs a F/2.2 13 MP rear camera with ISO support up to 3200.

If you look at the front of the phone, you’ll find the impressively narrow 2.7mm bezel. The GEAK Eye is priced at 1999 Yuan or about $320 off-contract.

Think of the GEAK Mars as an upgraded version of the Eye model. Almost all of the features have been upgraded from the CPU to the amount of RAM and battery as well. Take a look for yourselves:

The GEAK Mars takes the display up to 1080p. That’s why despite the screen size increase from 5- to 5.8-inch, the pixel density actually climbed higher to an impressive 377 ppi. At the heart of the phablet ticks a powerful Snapdragon 600 SoC, promising to deliver performance on all fronts. A massive 3200 mAh battery should ensure more than a day’s moderate usage. Voice assistance, DLNA, NFC and Miracast screen mirroring can all be enjoyed alongside Google’s latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system.

GEAK has priced the Mars phablet at 2999 Yuan, roughly $489 contract-free.
