First-hand details of Nokia EOS emerges

WPPowerUser reports the accounts of two insiders who encountered Nokia EOS prototype models.

It seems that Nokia hasn't finished announcing new smartphones, not yet. The Finnish firm is working on a third new Lumia device with even greater emphasis on the camera than the Lumia 925 and Lumia 928, which were announced in the past week. While the Lumia 925 comes with OIS and an improved six-lens Carl Zeiss optics, the Lumia 928 packs a powerful Xenon flash at the back. So what's in store for the next Lumia? Here's account from an insider who had an encounter with the said device, i.e. Nokia EOS.

The device is made of polycarbonate, and is about as thick as the Nokia Lumia 920 in the middle, but is highly tapered at both ends, giving the impression of a much slimmer device.
The lens housing is round in shape and does not protrude much. The flash is Xenon, and the flash and lens are both smaller than the Nokia 808 Pureview. Next to the flash is a small red LED which may be a focus assist light.
The lens also has an automatic cover that opens when the camera app is started.
The number of megapixels were not marked on the prototype, with “XX megapixels” only being written on the lens housing.
There is a new camera app called “Nokia Pro Camera” with a completely new interface. There is also manual focus available through the app. The regular photo app is also available.
The screen size and resolution is same as 920, and appears to be AMOLED. The speaker holes are at the bottom as the handset.
The handset was much lighter than the Nokia Lumia 920.

This new account sheds some more light on the design and camera aspects, as well as the software of the upcoming Nokia EOS Lumia model. Not only will the camera be a very high resolution one (the bump at the back gave it away), but it will also come with a powerful Xenon flash. The insider also noted the presence of a red LED that might actually be a focus assist lamp. Now that's something you don't see on smartphones everyday. On the software front, Nokia will bundle a new camera app called "Nokia Pro Camera", which will enable the user to use the manual focus feature (sounds great for smartphone camera photographers).

Design wise, the Nokia EOS will be similarly sized as yesteryear's Lumia 920. The display may be of AMOLED make and pack as much real estate as the 920 itself (meaning a 4.5 inch wide display). He also noted that the device was much lighter, which is hardly a feat considering the tank of a Lumia 920 weighs in at 185 grams. Another tipster told WMPowerUser that the device won't come in multiple color flavors and may also be stripped of wireless charging, although the possibility of support for wireless charging covers isn't ruled out. We fully expect Nokia to unveil their (real) flagship Lumia device soon (as the Lumia 925 and 928 hardly qualify for the title).
