EPoX eX5 Mini Me Review

We see different views of the sides of the case with the cover and heatsink
fan removed. We also see that Epox has taken great effort to route all the power
cables and the optical drive IDE cable properly, easing installation of
components for the user and also increasing airflow ventilation within the case.

A 200W Mega Power PSU with Power Factor Correction (PFC) powers the case. The
presence of a thermal-controlled 80mm exhaust fan will help to reduce noise


The layout of the mobo is quite radically different from the other SFFs. As
can be seen above, the front portion of the mobo has only the IDE headers and
also the SATA headers (located right behind the cmos battery). The LCD module
and front panel headers are also connected to the front of the mobo. The clear
cmos jumper is relatively inaccessible, being located right in the middle of the
mobo next to the IDE headers. One thing which I liked was that all the cables
were sheathed or heatshrunk. This will make the case neater-looking and aid in


The middle portion of the mobo brings even more surprises. The dual ram slots
that were missing from the front have been relocated to the left side of the
mobo, opposite from the AGP and PCI slots. Another surprise we found was that
the AGP slot is located on the inside, while the PCI is on the outer edge. All
other manufacturers have positioned the AGP slot on the outside while the PCI is
on the inner slot. This will have heat implications as people who install
external graphics card will find that installing a PCI card will impede airflow
for cooling the video card. Surprises really do abound, as we found that the P4
heatsink retention holder is different from the standard one found on other
boards. Epox had intended for the heatsink to provide integrated cooling for
both the cpu and the northbridge. Thus, the heatsink retention holder is larger
than normal.


The back of the case holds no surprises, with a black fan duct occupying a
large portion of the space. The fan duct functions very much like Shuttle’s fan
shroud, exhausting the hot air from the heatsink fan to the surroundings through
the ventilation holes at the back of the case. Located right above the fan duct
is the PSU.


A top down view of the case shows a better view of the dual ram slots and
also the AGP / PCI slots.
