Electronic Arts laying off hundreds of employees.

EA is going through an organizational restructure, which means a second round of layoffs is now hitting the company, this time potentially involving hundreds of employees.

Electronic Arts has already seen a change of leadership, a canceling of games and one round of layoffs. Now, a second round of layoffs is hitting the company, this time potentially affecting hundreds of employees. An EA blog post explains the dramatic changes: "In recent weeks, EA has aligned all elements of its organizational structure behind priorities in new technologies and mobile. This has led to some difficult decisions to reduce the workforce in some locations. We are extremely grateful for the contributions made by each of our employees — those that are leaving EA will be missed by their colleagues and friends."

EA has not announced how many are being laid off, but according to people familiar with the matter, the number could be very high. Kotaku reports that it's sources have claimed 10% of the company's 9000 employees will be laid off.

In addition to the layoffs, it's rumored that EA is closing its 3rd party publishing arm, EA Partners. The EA Partners label is responsible for publishing non-proprietary games, such as Left 4 Dead and Rock Band. This all comes only a short time after the company announced the closure of three of their popular Facebook games; The Sims Social, Sim City Social and Pet Society.
