Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey raises $1.5 million via Kickstarter

Red Thread Games is bent on bringing a brand new adventure set in the fan-favorite point-and-click adventure Dreamfall series, and the game's recent whopping Kickstarter success shows that fans are just as eager for a new Dreamfall.

Red Thread Games has embarked on a prestigious journey with the creation and development of Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey, and the studio has just received substantial funding via Kickstarter from gamers and fans who believe in their 3D adventure game.

The game in development is actually a sequel to the critically acclaimed Norwegian point-and-click adventure games The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, and will incorporate traditional story elements as well as infuse the game with classic 3D point-and-click mechanics that were hallmarks of the originals.

Red Thread Games is a Norwegian independent game studio that aims to bring a sequel to the fan-favorite franchise into the modern age. Below you can find an official description of the game itself:

"Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey is a 3D adventure game for Mac, Linux and Windows PC that takes the player on an epic journey across the twin worlds of Stark and Arcadia; from a futuristic cyberpunk vision of our world, to a realm of powerful magic and dangerous beauty.
With Dreamfall Chapters, we will finally continue the darkly magical story that began in the critically acclaimed and award-winning adventures The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.
Independently developed by Red Thread Games, this project brings back the core team behind Dreamfall, including Ragnar Tørnquist, creator of The Longest Journey saga."

Dreamfall's Kickstarter project was successfully funded, overshooting its set goal of $850,000 with a total of $1,538,425 raised across over twenty thousand backers.

It is also worth noting that Red Thread is composed of the original dev team behind the first PC releases, and it will be interesting to see how they blend the hallmark game mechanics set in place by the previous games into an all-new modern PC adventure. Red Thread has also submitted Dreamfall onto Steam Greenlight where it has garnered positive feedback and anticipation from a growing fan base.

In any case, many gamers across the world are looking forward to a new adventure in the distinguished Dreamfall series: the game's whopping Kickstarter success is proof that fans are eager for more.

Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey is planned for a release sometime in November of 2014 for PC, Mac and Linux. For more information please visit the game's official website, and be sure to check the game's official Kickstarter video below.
