Cheap(er) iPhone surfaces on assembly lines, in time for rumored September release

We have heard rumors about a cheap iPhone for about a couple of years now. Apple is expected to release a low cost iPhone later this year, presumably around the holiday season. Rumor has it that the company’s component suppliers are now shipping parts for a cheap iPhone in greater numbers, aiding speculation that the launch of such an iPhone is apparently imminent.

Suppliers such as TSMC, Largan Precision, Taiflex Scientific, Chipbond, Texas Instruments a couple of others are now reportedly overseeing “intensive delivery” of components for a cheap iPhone. TSMC manufacturers the 28 nanometer processor, the 8 megapixel camera module comes from Largan and Taiflex is allegedly providing the flexible circuit for this smartphone. Apple is said to be in the process of manufacturing a large number of units that it wants to be ready towards the end of the second half of this year.

This particular rumor also claims that Apple’s cheap iPhone might be released in August. The last smartphone Apple released was iPhone 5, it was unveiled in September 2012. The purported release time frame does sit well with other rumors we have been hearing about the launch of new iPhones, not to mention the fact that it falls in line with Apple’s tradition of releasing a new smartphone after one full year. Only recently it was rumored that a low cost iPhone might be released prior to the launch of iPhone 5S. Expected to retail for $399, Apple is presumably going to offer this device without a service contract.
