The Sony UBP-X800 is the first 4K UHD Bluray Player from Sony available for the masses, and it’s a perfect complement to their newly launched Bravia AE1 UHD OLED TVs.

Launched at CES 2017, the new X800 is set to be a powerful media-center for your new UHD TV. It’s new Precision HD Drive supports 4K UHD Bluray Discs and HDR output, and also supports standard Bluray and DVDs. It is also capable of streaming 4K content from Netflix and playing all your video content from USB. It has 2 HDMI outputs, one for your TV, and the other for your AV-Receiver so that you don’t compromise on the audio output – the UBP-X800 can support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X as well.

The X800 is also sets to appeal to audiophiles. If you have a collection of SACDs, you’ll be hyped to know that the X800 supports those as well. If your collection is in digital form, X800 plays back Hi-Res files up to 192kHz/24-bit and DSD 11.2MHz1. You can also connect your wireless headphones to it with Bluetooth!

Despite its strong specifications, the Sony X800 faces stiff competition by the likes of Oppo UDP-203 and Microsoft’s Xbox One S. Since launched, the Xbox One S remains the best value for money of any 4K Bluray player out there.

The Sony UBP-X800 is targeted for sale in Q1 2017. Pricing to be confirmed.
