botObjects announces ProDesk3D, world’s first full color 3D desktop printer

BotObjects has announced that they are developing a 3D printer that is capable of printing out 3D models that have the same color palette as 2D printers.

Since 3D printing became somewhat of a household term, very few 3D printers had color options, with most being monochrome or limited to a few select colors. BotObjects’ ProDesk3D is seeking to change all that by adding full coloration to 3D models, which is achieved via five color cartridges blended to create different colors and shades.

Most 3D printers on the market today utilize ABS or PLA thermoplastics, and the ProDesk3D doesn’t step too far away from the conventional as it, too, uses PLA (Polyactic Acid).  PLA is a biodegradable material that can be re-melted many times without losing its integrity—making it ideal choice for 3D printing.

Aside from the built-in coloring advancement, botObjects also claims that their design software is “user friendly, simple… yet powerful.”

“After two years of work, we are proud to be close to launching a revolutionary product, one that captures the imagination of the owner both from its exterior design and by what it can create—the ProDesk3D was designed based on our view of what this industry would look like in 5 years,” said Martin Werner, CEO and Co-founder.

BotObjects has not announced the ProDesk3D’s availability nor its pricing.  Moreover, no live demos of the color 3D printer have been released to the public, but we’re hoping that we’ll be able to see for ourselves, soon, the company’s claims.
