Bloomberg report backs rumors of a ‘bezel-less’ Galaxy S8

Citing sources familiar with the matter, Bloomberg in a new report “confirms” previous rumors and reports of Samsung ditching the physical home button on the Galaxy S8 to achieve a nearly bezel-less front.

While Samsung isn’t expected to match the nearly “91%” screen-to-body ratio of the Xiaomi Mi Mix, the Galaxy S8 models will still be able to fit larger displays in a similar size to the 5.1-inch Galaxy S7 and the 5.5-inch Galaxy S7 Edge. However, if previous reports are to be believed, the regular Galaxy S8 will feature a 5.7-inch sized display while the bigger Galaxy S8 Edge or Galaxy S8 Plus will come with a 6.2-inch sized display.

As for the fingerprint scanner, as suggested by a rumor recently, Samsung is expected to use an optical fingerprint scanner module, which will be embedded in the virtual home button in the display glass. With the bezels almost gone, the visual real estate will increase significantly when compared to the current Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge.

The Bloomberg report also confirms recent reports of Samsung giving up on plans of using a dual-camera setup on the Galaxy S8. The publication’s sources say that Samsung has made the decision of scrapping plans for a dual-camera on the Galaxy S8 due to higher manufacturing costs. Further, the report suggests the Galaxy S8 may not go on sale in March, as Samsung has adopted tougher testing procedures after the whole Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, so the Galaxy S8 launch could be delayed until April.
