Blizzard raises $2.3 million for Hurricane Sandy relief with WoW Cinder Kitten

The World of Warcraft community has raised over $2.3 million for Superstorm Sandy relief by purchasing these virtual fiery felines.

Not all blizzards have to be cold, and the game developer/publisher Blizzard Entertainment proves this by raising $2.3 million for Superstorm Sandy victims by selling virtual Cinder Kitten pets in World of Warcraft.

In the month of December, Blizzard donated 100% of the proceeds raised by Cinder Kitten sales to Sandy relief efforts via the American Red Cross in order to help victims of the devastating hurricane.

The flaming felines, which are valued at $10 apiece, mark Blizzard's second noble fundraiser since the Cenarion Hatchling pet raised funds for tsunami victims in Japan in 2011.

More about the Cinder Kitten pet:

"The Cinder Kitten doesn’t just have good looks — this kitty has claws, and makes a purrfect addition to any Pet Battle team. The Cinder Kitten has Rare-quality stats and is a part of the Elemental family. This not-so-cool cat uses many Beast abilities in addition to Dragonkin and Elemental, and can also Prowl, Leap, and Rend its way to a 3-hit combo against its foes—and look good doing it."
