BlackBerry Storm arrives in Singapore

Blackberry Storm

Even though the BlackBerry Storm was announced since last year, the smartphone only arrives in Singapore today, officially. The local media was invited to the product launch and had a chance to hands-on the world’s first “clickable” touchscreen smartphone.

Today is the official launch of the BlackBerry Storm in Singapore. Gregory Wade, Regional Vice President, Asia Pacific, Research In Motion started the event and expressed his excitement about the smartphone with its unique clickable touchscreen, multimedia features and email and messaging capabilities.

The BlackBerry Storm features the unique SurePress touchscreen which depresses slightly when you pressed on the screen, giving users the feel during typing and navigation. It sports a large 3.2-inch display (480 x 360 resolution), supports HSPA connectivity and comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera with variable zoom, auto focus and flash. The BlackBerry Storm can also play videos in full-screen mode and has built-in GPS, 1GB onboard memory and microSD/SDHC memory card slot (up to 16GB) and supports BlackBerry Internet Service and Enterprise Server.

The BlackBerry Storm is expected to be available from M1, SingTel and Starhub from end of April. Pricing information and pre-orders are available from each carrier. You can find out more about the BlackBerry Storm from their website.

VR Zone has the opportunity to hands on the BlackBerry Storm at the event. It is interesting to see the entire display made in such a way that it can be depressed slightly, making it “clickable”. Navigation is fairly easy, though messaging may need some getting used to; typing on the onscreen QWERTY keyboard is a bit tedious as you may tend to press the wrong key if not careful. The camera takes good quality image, despite only 3.2-megapixel unlike other mobile phones with higher rating.
