Black Friday 2013: Barnes & Noble sells Nook HD for $79, Nook Simple Touch is $39

Barnes & Noble is not only working on a Tegra 4-powered fresh Nook tablet, but it’s also making ample efforts to turn one of the old slates into the best, cheapest, hottest gadget to buy this holiday season.

Nook HD

And to think people actually believed B&N was dead as far as hardware manufacturing was concerned. Think again, ladies and gents, as the now $79 Nook HD is destined to sell like hotcakes from today until Sunday, December 1.

That’s when B&N’s latest promo, a Black Friday special, is to expire, though the Nook HD should continue to look fairly appealing even next week, when it’ll again cost $129 in an 8 GB version. For crying out loud, you get a top-notch 7-inch 1,440 x 900 pixels resolution screen here, plus a more than decent dual-core 1.3 GHz CPU, 1 GB RAM and microSD support.

Meanwhile, the 16 GB model, available with “snow” and “smoke” paint jobs, goes for $99, down from $149 regularly. Both tabs are up for grabs for the discounted prices only online by the end of the day and tomorrow, which just happens to be Black Friday, will see the deal spread in B&N’s 700 brick and mortar stores across America.

But wait, there’s more. More on-the-cheap mobile tech treats, that is, as Barnes & Noble has savagely slashed the price of the more basic Nook Simple Touch as well. The 6-inch e-reader, coming with Wi-Fi connectivity and 2 GB of built-in storage, costs $39 (50 bucks off), also for a limited time, namely today through Sunday.

Unlike the Nook HD, which has a bigger, more technically impressive brother but not an heir yet, the Simple Touch got a sequel about a month ago, dubbed Nook Glowlight and currently selling for $119. Not that it’s worth the dough, I just felt you needed to know the full story before making a purchasing decision. Ready, set, go.
