Be Quiet Dark Power Pro P9 550W PSU review

The Dark Power Pro 550W power supply’s appearance is even more imposing than that of the very well designed Straight Power series. The entire power supply is black, justifying the series name, while the strange straight fan’s grill is a unique feature of Be Quiet’s products; at least for the time being. It is noteworthy to mention that the Dark Power Pro 550W unit is a very long power supply considering its output; measuring 200mm long, the Dark Power Pro is longer than any other unit with a similar power output and of equivalent length to products able to output more than 1kW.

Be Quiet placed the label with the unit’s electrical specifications and approvals at the left side of the unit.

The rear is entirely perforated to allow for the air pushed by the cooling fan to escape towards the outside of the case. A plastic frame is installed, which is why this unit need longer screws to be secured inside a case. The unit uses a standard A/C power cable and there is a standard on/off switch right next to the A/C cable plug.

At the front we can see the numerous connectors for the modular cables. All of the connectors are black, except of the one for the overclocking cable which is white. You can either insert the supplied jumper in the white connector to permanently turn this unit into a single 12V rail power supply, or use the supplied button to switch between four 12V lines and one 12V line but you must never do this while the power supply is operational. This unit offers the following number of connectors:

Native cables

24-pin ATX connector

Modular cables

1 x 4+4 pin ATX12V/EPS12V CPU connector

2 x 6+2 pin PCIe connectors

2 x 6 pin PCIe connectors

9 x SATA connectors

6 x Molex connectors

1 x Floppy connector

1 x motherboard (Molex) connector

4 x  fan connectors
