BBM for iPad support finally here, but there’s a catch

BlackBerry has rolled out an update for its BBM app, which finally brings the much awaited BBM for iPad support, though there’s a catch.

Even prior to its first botched roll out attempt, BlackBerry had confirmed that BBM for iOS will not have iPad support at launch. When the initial launch had to be halted and the app was released again after a few weeks, the updated app didn’t bring iPad support. That has finally been fixed. The latest BBM for iOS update brings BBM for iPad, but only for Wi-Fi models. The app doesn’t support cellular models of the iPad or iPad mini for that matter.

Another catch is that while this app can be used on cellular iPads, users will have to double the pixels. BlackBerry hasn’t released a native BBM app for the iPad, it has merely added support for the tablet in its iPhone app. So while the visuals might not be appealing, the update does bring BBM functionality to the iPad, enabling it to send messages to Android as well as BlackBerry smartphones. The latest update also comes with support for the fourth and fifth generation iPod touch.

The update also comes with other improvements as such right-to-left language support, ability to share BBM Pin barcode on Facebook and Twitter directly through the app as well as a fix for a bug that caused BBM contact names to go missing. BBM for iOS is available as a free download from the App Store.
