Avira Announces Presence In Singapore, Officially Introduces Flagship Security Products For Retail

While Avira’s products may have a fairly large user base in many parts of the world, the company has yet to establish an official presence locally. That is all set to change: Avira has just announced its intention in making an entry to the local market in a press conference held today at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. In addition, Avira will also be introducing a certain ‘limited edition’ package from Germany for sale locally as well. VR-Zone brings you the coverage.

More than 260,000, and counting.

That is the number of users Avira claims it has in Singapore which are currently using the company’s security products such as Avira AntiVir. Which, in many ways, is no mean feat especially when one takes into consideration that Avira had never officially established a presence here to market its products to.

However, that is all set to change. After setting up its first international subsidiary in Malaysia last year, Avira has acknowledged the Singapore market as one where there is “overwhelming response” for its products, and have moved to officially offer both its flagship products, Avira AntiVir Premium and Avira Premium Security Suite for retail locally.

The landmark announcement was made today at Avira’s inaugural press conference in Singapore, which was held at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel.

In his opening address, Avira’s Vice President for Asia Pacific Region Richard Yamamoto expressed his amazement at how well the company was able to perform in the Asia Pacific region despite being a relatively young competitor in the security software business.

“Avira is a young company, even though it has a history of over 20 years. But in this region of Asia, we only have a history of about a year and a half. Our Malaysian office has been working very hard to build up a strong foundation for us to expand into…and I’m very happy to say that the entire region has, on the whole, experienced extreme growth ,” he said.

Yamamoto also spoke on how Avira has always been adapting to the changing needs on consumers to ensure that its products are well suited to protect users from the growing threat of malware and viruses circulating on the internet. He said that this was the reason why Avira did not need to market its products as extensively as its competitors do.

“Most people actually found Avira. They found us, not because of marketing or a strong sales channel, but by word of mouth. A lot of people and bloggers visiting download sites read reviews, found out that Avira was actually a good quality product, and that we were not out to charge the highest price or simply sell them more products,” he said.

Shortly after his opening address, Yamamoto presented a copy of the company’s boxed software to Alan Wei, Managing Director of Aurica, which will serve Avira’s distributor for Singapore.

The company also held a Question and Answer session for members of the media to clear any doubts about its commitment and plans for the local market.

At this point, you might be impatiently wondering about the mystery limited-edition bundle we spoke about earlier. Last but not least, Yamamoto announced the introduction of a new Avira + TuneUp Utilities 2010 Bundle. This software package contains both a 5-user license of Avira’s Premium Security Suite and a copy of TuneUp Utilities, and is expected to retail in Singapore by early November for a suggested retail price of S$35 onwards.
