Asus takes the world’s thinnest convertible notebook crown.

Convertibles. No, not cars that fold down their roofs at a press of a switch, we’re talking about the PC kind – touchscreen equipped notebooks that can be folded 360 degrees to turn them into tablets. Often called 2-in-1 convertible notebooks, in the last few years they’ve become quite trendy thanks to more efficient and cooler processors, excellent screens and Windows 10, which has touch capabilities that actually work (if you had to live with Windows 8 touch user interface you’ll know exactly what I mean.)

In the last year or so we’ve seen some sexy svelte 2-in-1 convertibles, predominantly from Lenovo and HP, but now it’s the turn of Taiwanese PC maker Asus to grab the thin-and-light limelight with the ZenBook Flip S (UX370). Weighing in at 1.1kg and just 10.9mm thick, it grabs the crown as the world’s thinnest 2-in-1 convertible notebook in a 13.3-inch form factor.

The ZenBook Flip S features a 13.3-inch 4K display with very thin bezels on the sides, which Asus is referring to as “NanoEdge” and just like Microsoft’s new Surface Pro, the ZenBook Flip S display supports active stylus input as well. Being a convertible, you can “flip” the display as per your preference, thanks to a 360-degree ErgoLift hinge made out of steel alloy.

Under the hood, ZenBook Flip S is powered by Intel’s latest 7th Gen Core i7-7500U processor with a boost frequency of 3.5 GHz. It also includes up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and a 1TB PCIe x4 SSD for ultra-fast performance. In order to keep the internals running cool inside the razor-thin chassis, Asus is using a custom “liquid-crystal polymer fan” that happens to be 0.3mm thin. Rest of the key highlights include a fingerprint sensor for Windows Hello authentication, Harman/Kardon audio, and up to 14 hours of battery life.

Announced at a Pre-Computex 2017 event, the Asus ZenBook Flip S will go on sale in the US in September this year with a price tag of US $1,099 for the base configuration. The convertible will ship with Microsoft’s Windows 10 S operating system out of the box.
