ASUS ROG Maximus V Formula/ThunderFX (Z77) Review

Conclusion

Price: US$279 (NewEgg) / SGD$459 (Cybermind)

The Maximus V Formula has been in our labs for more than three months and deployed as our de facto Ivy Bridge reference test bed for good reason – it is simply the best offering in the sea of Z77 motherboards out there. We still have two other motherboards (ASRock Z77 OC Formula and Gigabyte Z77X-UP5 TH) in the review pipeline that will be published sometime later this month, and a small spoiler is that we think they're pretty good too.

Actually what we liked most above all that we've mentioned is the fact that ASUS has support personnel and even engineers from the ROG team themselves camping in various enthusiast forums like Overclock.net and XtremeSystems in addition to their official ROG microsite, actively soliciting user feedback and providing useful commentaries/guides to help maximize the ownership experience. We haven't come across such representation from the other companies (or albeit not in such a high profile fashion) and from our own experience some of these OEMs are not exactly very receptive or responsive to end-user grievances.

Reiterating what we've said during the start of this review, this motherboard isn't for the bargain seeking Ivy Bridge consumer, but if you are looking for a marriage of asthetics and unparalleled refinement then your search has come to an end.
