Dark fantasy RPG ‘Bound by Flame’ to see multi-platform release on May 9

Spiders Studios today announced a release date for Bound By Flame, an interesting-looking action role-playing game for consoles and PC.

Bound by Flame from Spiders Studios is an interesting ARPG that blends a myriad of classic dungeon crawling sentiments with an intuitive story arc focused on dark fantasy. In a spin akin to Daedalic’s Blackguards, this ARPG focuses on the maleficent power of the underworld and the evil vs. good duality of mankind.

“Bound by Flame is a heroic fantasy RPG that has you playing as a mercenary possessed by a demon in flames. In the grasp of the demon, you must choose between the demonic power within you, and your humanity.

“Should you choose the latter, you must repel the demonic influence and develop truly heroic skills. As dangers and enemies close down on you, always more fearsome and terrifying, you will be tempted to yield a bit more of your soul to the demon that possesses you in order to gain more power… and as the demon gains more of your soul, your physical transformation becomes more obvious.”

The game itself presents an interesting plot line while keeping true to the in-game elements set forth by the genre, and based on the screenshots and video footage, it looks to be a solid title. The baddies are all pretty varied and striking in their appearance, continuing the dark fantasy theme, many of which are quite titanic and ferocious.

Gamers will be able to do everything from miscellaneous crafting to customize their weapons and armor to honing their deadly skills with tactical and strategic combat. Furthermore players will be able to choose their own path–think Fable‘s good-and-evil branching path system–to build their very own deadly warrior to conquer–or save–the land of Vertiel.

Be sure to take a gander at the screens and trailer below, and drop on by the game’s website to find out more–it may not replace the Diablo series, but it looks like a nifty ARPG mashup that’s worth your time.

Bound By Flame will release on May 9, 2014 for Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC. For more information please visit the game’s official website.
