Apple silently discontinues the original iPad Mini

The original iPad mini model has been silently discontinued by Apple as Apple removed the iPad mini listing and other references to the tablet from its official website and online store.

Apple’s website now lists only two iPad mini models – iPad mini 2 and the iPad mini 3. The original iPad mini model had been launched by Apple in October 2012 and was the first model in the iPad mini line. Until last week, the iPad mini was being sold by Apple for $249.

It is definitely no surprise to see the iPad mini being discontinued, as the tablet had been in the market for almost three years now. With the iPad mini 2 being available for $299 with significantly better hardware, it didn’t quite make any sense for most buyers to save $50 and get the first-gen iPad mini.

If you wish to get your hands on the last few remaining iPad minis, you can check out the refurbished section on the Apple website or other retailers such as Amazon.
