Apple iPad 5 to land in September, iPad Mini 2 specifications being tweaked

A new report has just landed citing that the Apple iPad 5 is all set to land in our hands this September. The same report also says that the iPad Mini 2 specifications haven’t been finalized yet, are still getting some changes under the hood.

A new report says that Apple will introduce their next-generation iPad 5 tablet this September. The new iPad 5 will pack the same 9.7-inch sized display, albeit in a smaller shell. Gone are those thick bezels, with the big tablet borrowing heavily from the iPad Mini design. Not just the bezel, but also the number of LED tubes used in the device has taken a cut, down from two to just one. This should help make the tablet thinner, lighter and more power efficient.

Since upstream suppliers have mostly finished preparing for the production of the new 9.7-inch iPad, there is unlikely to be any changes in terms of specifications for the device.

Although suppliers have not yet received a firm mass production schedule from Apple and are mainly shipping products for pilot production, the sources pointed out that pilot production is already able to satisfy demand for the initial launch. Therefore, the sources expect Apple to give its shipment estimates at the end of July or early August.

Meanwhile, Apple is still undecided on the final specifications of the next-generation “retina” iPad Mini 2, with the retina term still under debate in Apple’s office. The iPad Mini 2 release won’t happen any sooner than late Q4 2013.

Meanwhile, Apple has also been asking its upstream supply partners to further shrink the next-generation iPad mini’s bezel, aiming to push a bezel-less design similar to that of Samsung and HTC’s large-size smartphones.

Of course, both devices will run on the latest iOS 7 mobile operating system.
