Apple expected to release OS X 10.8.5 today, ships pre-release build to partners

Apple might release a new OS X Mountain Lion update today which has been in developer preview stage for a couple of months. The company has reportedly already shipped pre-release builds to partners, and it may release OS X 10.8.5 later today.

Up till now Apple has seeded seven beta builds of the OS X 10.8.5 update for Mac. Developers have had a lot of time on their hands to get their apps ready as well as weed out any potential bugs that might be present in the upcoming update. Hopefully when the launch takes place later today, users won’t encounter any major bugs. Apple has reportedly shipped the pre-release build of OS X 10.8.5 to a selected group of partners, this is seen as an indication that the public release isn’t too far off.

The update is said to be recommended for all OS X Mountain Lion users. It is said to fix a number of issues, such as one which may prevent Mail app from displaying messages. The update is also said to improve AFP file transfer performance over 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Apart from improving Xsan reliability, this latest update will reportedly solve an issues that may prevent a screensaver from starting automatically.

No official word has been received from Apple as yet regarding this update. The last beta version was shipped to developers on July 31st. It is believed that pre-release builds are provided to partners hours before the public release, so there’s rising speculation that OS X 10.8.5 update release takes place today. You’ll be duly notified when that happens.
