Apple A9 is a dual-core SoC clocked at 1.8GHz, reveals iPhone 6s listing on TENAA

Apple-A9

Like every year, Apple didn’t reveal any key specs of its new Apple A9 chip when it announced the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus earlier this month. However, the iPhone 6s listing on China’s TENAA claims the A9 under its hood is a dual-core SoC, clocked at 1.8GHz.

Since the Apple A8X chip used on the iPad Air 2 last year was a tri-core chip, some of you may have hoped Apple would go with three cores for the A9 chip this year. Sadly that doesn’t appear to be the case. Still, it shouldn’t be very disappointing for most of you out there as in terms of actual performance, the A9 is quite a beast. Although it still remains to be verified, Apple claimed the A9 chip offers up to 70% faster performance at CPU tasks and up to 90% more powerful graphics performance.
