AMD 2010 Media Conference: 26 January 2010

Earlier today, a media conference was held by AMD with their partners to disclose the company’s product direction. Heading the presentations were (left to right): Tan See Ghee, Marketing Director for South Asia (AMD), Tono Kamiya, Regional Vice President, Sales and Marketing for South Asia (AMD), Howie Lau, General Manager and Executive Director, ASEAN (Lenovo). More on the inside.

Today, AMD delivered a presentation highlighting the prospects for 2010 in terms of product and platform development. A lot was mentioned about the marketing terminology used to differentiate the tiers and user groups. Here’s some slides with a little more relevance.

On the server end of things, the Opteron line is bound for refresh.

For the professional graphics sector, there is the ATI FirePro range. Not much word but much promises:

There were notable mentions of how parallel stream processing is helping out in daily applications, particularly the shift of system performance to include GPU processing. Some of these applications run on the ATI’s range of graphics accelerators.

Lenovo stole the limelight by introducting its new Thinkpad x100E. A sturdy little laptop with AMD’s Athlon Neo Mobile processor onboard, promising 5 hour battery life with a 6-cell battery.

This is what AMD wants us to expect for the year ahead. The future is fusion, if you have faith.
