Singapore, 27 July 2017 – If you’re living in Singapore, you can now enjoy Amazon’s Prime Now service from today. Amazon Prime Now offers a hyper fast 2-hour delivery for orders placed in the Prime Now App (iOS/Android), even for groceries!
Whether they’re shopping for TVs and Music systems, or simply groceries like snacks and beer, consumers get to choose from over 20,000 curated products. And for a limited time, Singapore customers can enjoy service without paying for an Amazon Prime subscription – which will be launched in Singapore in the future.
In the meantime, consumers can expect free 2-hour delivery for orders above S$40, and have their orders delivered in an hour for S$9.99. Deliveries are fulfilled between 10am-10pm from Amazon Prime’s monstrous 100,000 sq ft Fulfilment Centre at Toh Guan Road East.
Despite delays, Amazon Prime’s entry into the Singaporean eCommerce scene had long been anticipated. With its westernised and tech-savvy population, Amazon sees Singapore as a natural gateway to the gigantic ASEAN market of 600 million people. That had prompted Chinese eCommerce giant Alibaba to make several preemptive moves to remain competitive in the city, such as increasing their stake in Lazada to 83% and acquiring Singapore-based online grocer Redmart last year.
With two eCommerce giants duking it out for our hearts (and wallets), local consumers might ultimately benefit from better services and prices. However, resource-challenged brick and mortar stores with slower turnaround times may find it harder to compete.
