All natural cotton candy grapes now available for purchase

If you like grapes and cotton candy, and wish that somehow you can buy some all-natural, vine-harvested, grapes, now you can.  A plant breeder has successfully isolated the right variant of seedless grapes that tastes, purportedly, just like the fluffy and sugary treat that are often found at carnivals.

According to local reports, a grape growing company out of Kern County (a little north of Los Angeles) has been selling their cotton-flavored grapes, and the consensus is that the pop-in-your-mouth fruit tastes just like cotton candy.

“It’s true, they taste and even smell like cotton candy,” according to a local NBC (KGET) report.

David Cain, the horticulturalist that isolated the cotton candy variant, reportedly went through some 100,000 test-tube plants before he finally discovered the sugary flavored grape.  Like all great science experiments, the discovery was by chance, and now that the words are out, the accident will be a very profitable one, too.

“[T]hese grapes aren’t sticky and loaded with granulated sugar like the fluffy stuff you munched on back in the day. But they’re just as sweet—and much juicier. This is fresh fruit you can snack on all you want,” according to Grapery’s site.

What’s the going price for a pound of these cotton candy grapes?  This year’s yield was low, so if you’re in the area and need to get your hands on some it’ll cost you $5 a pound, and if you’re not a local (or in the vicinity) it has been reported that it may cost you as much as $10 per pound.
