AMD should launch its new 939-pin Athlon 64 processors in the
second quarter of this year as expected. The new Athlon 64 processor, codenamed
Newcastle, supports dual channel DDR memory and will boast 256KB of L2 cache,
instead of 512KB as reported previously. The new processor will be available at
speeds ranging from 1.8GHz to 2.4Ghz. VIA will showcase its K8T800Pro chipset
which supports the Newcastle at the upcoming CeBIT 2004 show. A number of
Taiwanese motherboard makers have already decided to use the K8T800Pro and will
start taking deliveries in the latter half of March. Nvidia’s nForce3 250, is
likely to come out later than the K8T800Pro.

Note : DigiTimes has made a mistake. Newcastle will still boost 512KB
L2 cache.
