600,000 Honda Accords recalled to repair faulty hoses

Six hundred thousand Honda Accords, a favorite among Americans, are being recalled for replacement because of a faulty power steering hose, which could and has been the cause of automobile fire and loss of power steering.

The cars being affected by the recall include all Honda Accords with a V-6 engine, made from 2003 through 2007 model years. While no deaths or injuries have been caused by the defective part, Honda does report one incident of a fire.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration posted documents on its website, reporting that the power steering hose in these models is susceptible to deterioration in prolonged contact with engine heat, which can cause the part to crack and leak, which can cause a fire and loss of power steering as well.

The Honda Accord is a car easily spotted on American roads. Known for its reliability and fuel efficiency, the Accord is something of a favorite, and has been the nation's second best-selling car for years.

Those with an Accord that matches the qualifications above will be able to receive a free replacement hose next year to remedy the defective part. According to Honda spokesman Ed Miller, anybody who suspects that their Accord has a leak like the one mentioned above should take their car to a dealer for inspection.

The hoses that will be available next year will be produced by the company that manufactures Honda’s power-steering hoses. Since the affected models are more than five model-years old, the hoses have been out of production, and it will take a bit of time to get the right number out and ready.
