256 GB Microsoft Surface Pro landing in Japan on June 7 with pre-loaded Office 2013

Surface Pro

Just when you might have thought Microsoft’s Surface Pro was near dead and buried, the thing seems to have blossomed by hitting Singapore for the first time and Japan in a special flavor packing 256 GB of storage.

Wait, what?!? 256 gigs of internal memory? That… is… crazy! It is, no doubt about it, but be warned you’ll not have the full 256 GB of storage at your disposal, but instead a far more modest 208. Then again, there’s also microSD support for expanding the internal memory, so it would be pretty ridiculous to complain of not enough wiggle room on this particular Surface Pro model.

What you can definitely complain of though is the tablet’s scandalous price – 99,800 Yen, or about $975. Come on, Microsoft, you can buy a full-blown, top-notch ultrabook for that dough!

Oh, well, if you don’t have anything better to do with a big pile of green, you may be happy to hear the Japan-bound 256 GB Surface Pro will come with pre-loaded Office 2013 and go up for sale on June 7.

Naturally, besides the storage bump, there’s nothing to set this Surface Pro apart from its 64 and 128 GB “cousins”, as all sport 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution 10.6-inch displays, run Windows 8 Pro out the box and pack 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 processors.

Other features you might want to know of include 4 GB of RAM, stylus input support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0 and a 1 MP front camera. The slate can be paired with a “touch cover” and thus turned into a sleek notebook look-alike, but the physical keyboard-toting accessory will require you to cough up some extra clams, bringing the grand total to around 110,000 Yen (close to $1,100).

The good news is Japan will be getting special editions of these touch covers too, with “kawaii” designs by Beams or Rodeo Crowns. Enough to pique your interest? Let us know down below.
